In the spirit of PDN's recent release of the Top 30, I thought I would plug a favorite of my own. I've been scouring the internet as of late, finding tons of new photographers to idolize, one of whom is
Sarah Maingot, who shows her books from reps in Paris and London thus I cannot figure out in which city she resides. Her work is absolutely incredible. She shoots fashion editorial and some commercial as well, from what I can tell. I'm obsessed with the ethereal, painterly quality of her images that is perhaps the closest to "painterly" I've seen from photographers (this is, of course, excluding cheesy Photoshop techniques which to me are the antithesis of painterly). Really though, some of her images could have been created by Vermeer himself. Speaking of Vermeer, the subject matter of much of her work is indeed of reminiscent of Dutch Baroque paintings. I could hardly be expected to pick a favorite.
